What is the best food to feed my cat?

Meat. Cats are meat eaters, plain and simple. They have to have protein from meat for a strong heart, good vision, and a healthy reproductive system. Cooked beef, chicken, turkey, and small amounts of lean deli meats are a great way to give them that.Jan 16, 2022

Is it OK to feed cats dry food only?

"Dry food is fine as long as it is complete and balanced," says Dr. Kallfelz. Dry food may be less expensive than canned cat food and may stay fresher longer. Cats that eat only dry food need to be provided with lots of fresh water, especially if they are prone to developing urinary tract blockages.

How often should cats have dry food?

"From age six months to maturity, most cats will do well when fed two times a day." Once the cat becomes an adult, at about one year, feeding once or twice a day is appropriate in most cases. Senior cats, age seven and above, should maintain the same feeding regimen.

How often should you feed an indoor cat?

Cats should eat at least two meals each day, about 12 hours apart. But a breakfast, lunch, afternoon, dinner, and right before bed schedule is an equally great option. If more than 12 hours elapses between meals, the stomach can become hyperacidic causing nausea.

Because many high quality, high meat foods are naturally low in carbohydrates like grains, they are indeed a more suitable diet for cats. Reviews From our Customers
Customer says:
My cat seemed tired all the time, and had sort of rough fur. Just to change up his foods I tried this Meat Lover’s Medley by Evanger’s because I liked the ingredients. I read the history on the company and love that it’s family-owned and has been around for generations. Halfway into my first small bag of food I noticed my cat had so much more energy and wasn’t just sleeping and skulking about all day! That was the first great sign that I switched to a better food. When people came over they’d started to comment on how soft his fur was. I realized nobody ever commented on that before and put together that it must be the new Evanger’s food he is eating. I didn’t realize how important it was to feed a good food like this until we started using this food. And it’s crazy that this is the same price as the junk I was feeding before. I wish I didn’t wait so long to get my cat a good food. And he loves it and eats with excitement now too. Thank you Evangers!

Customer says:
My picky cat, who is riddled with food allergies, likes this stuff. I did not know my cat had food allergies (chicken and fish) until she was probably 7 or 8. We took her to the vet because she kept throwing up every day, where we were told her bowels were inflamed and she had kidney stones. The vet suggested a grain-free, chicken-free, and fish-free diet. At that point, my cat kinda stopped eating altogether. She was put on steroids and an appetite stimulant. We desperately tried any and every food that fit our criteria, but the cat just wouldn’t eat. Eventually I got to Evangers and - she ate it!!!! At first she ate only a little, but as appetite stimulants were also working, and the steroids were helping with bowel inflammation, she started to feel better and eat better. This dry food is now our staple. Cat has been off medications for almost a year now. She went from being 4-pound skinny sick cat to a 6+ pound healthy cat. She is very happy and healthy, and this food is part of the reason. She is also very very very picky about what she eats, and she loves this. I’ve gone through every limited ingredient diet cat food out there before landing on this.
Customer says:
All 3 cats said no to this food. My cats love to crunch on their dry food rather than swallow it whole. When they tried to eat this food it was apparent they were having trouble biting down on it so they became frustrated, spit it out and walked away. All 3 of them! While this kibble is a good size for crunching, the pieces are triangle shaped instead of the usual round or oval shape. All 3 cats seemed to have trouble getting it positioned in their mouth so they could bite into it. Maybe because of the triangle shape? My kitties are ages 5, 4 and 3 and they all have good, healthy teeth. Since they did make an attempt to eat it, I can only speculate that the shape of this kibble is the culprit. I'm disappointed since this appears to be a healthy quality food that I was hoping would work for all 3 cats, since the 4 yr. old has a chicken allergy. According to the reviews, most cats eat this food without any difficulty so it's worth a try. Guess my fur babies are just weird.

When we first adopted our cat, we apparently got very lucky with food - we won a year's supply of a local dry cat food (which lasted us two years), and he loved it. By the time that supply ran out, we had moved and no longer had access to that local brand. The next food we chose for him he also loved. After that, we realized how lucky we got...the next several dry foods we tried to feed our cat, he straight out refused to eat, or if he ate them he would have some digestion issues (we introduced the foods slowly, mixed with his prior kibble) - apparently, flavors, main protein sources, and kibble shape are extremely important to our cat. Enter Evanger's. He loved this food immediately, and it has caused no digestive issues through the transition.
Customer says:
apparently our 1 year old male Persian has a wimpy G.I. system or has a fish allergy. If we feed him normal foods (most have some kind of fish by-product) he gets the runs and atomic smells and gassy. After searching for a food that has no seafood (recommended by our vet) I found this stuff and tried it out on the cats. They did have to warm up to it, but after a few days they like it and eat it all up. Also, the Persian immediately stopped having the G.I. issues, but still occasionally pees on his sac fur. We have recently switched again to a prescription diet food for him and it seems to have fixed that part of the issue. Overall, if you have a "normal" cat (a mutt breed) I think this food would be a great choice as the ingredients all sound quite healthy...I wish this was available locally, too.
