Customer says:
I’ve been feeding my cats Natural Balance dry food since they were kittens. Vets routinely comment on the quality of their coats and overall health. We switched from chicken and pea flavor to the salmon recently due to price, and my kitties (who are usually picky about cat food and hate change) are OBSESSED with the new flavor.

My cats love this food, but talk about price gauging!!!! This is double what I recently paid!!! Take it out on the poor animals that need to eat???

My cat has had chronic diarrhea ever since we got him 6 months ago. He is now 9 months old. We tried many different things: fecal tests, special food, bottled water only, no treats, expensive probiotic powder, antibiotics, dewormer etc. I kind of suspected it was the chicken/poultry causing it after giving him plain chicken breast once & him being affected by just that. Well, I am happy to report that kitty has been diarrhea free for 4 whole days now! After that first meal, that was it! This is the longest he’s went! So, it’s either chicken or some ingredient that the previous foods had & this one doesn’t. Who knows, but we’ll definitely stick with this food. The bag of food we received looks fine, smells fine (for cat food), and it’s a huge bag. It’s actually a bit cheaper than the one he was on previously. I haven’t gotten to the bottom yet to see any crumbs (like mentioned in other reviews), but I’ll deal with that if it means no more suffering for my cat. Overall, very impressed.

Since we adopted Buddy last February we have been trying to find foods that he will and can eat. We wanted him to be on canned food, but he just will not cooperate with that at all. He will go into a starvation mode that I can not allow myself to cause. Anyway, the only canned food he would eat was fish so that's what we gave him. He scratched frequently, but didn't do any harm to himself so we figured that was the best we could do. We tried some dry foods of duck and fish as well because he loves dry food. They either caused him to throw up or scratch like crazy or get yeast in his ears. We tried all the limited ingredient turkey foods we could find both canned and dry and he either wouldn't eat them or they would also cause scratching. The Instinct actually caused him to scratch his face to bleed. What to do?! We saw this one, but I was turned off by the low protein and high carbs. We continued on with the fish but then he started to throw that up. Desperately we tried this one. Within a few days the scratching stopped completely. Within 2 weeks the yeast was gone from his ears as well. I had thought that the yeast was from the carbs from the dry, but it appears it was an allergic reaction from the proteins we were giving him. He has been on this for about 3 weeks now and he loves it! He gets 1/4 cup two times a day and that seems to satisfy him because he leaves even a few morsels in his dish. His coat is incredible and he sheds so little it's amazing. When he was on the canned fish, he shed way more than this! Anyway, he doesn't throw up anymore and he uses his litter box without issues and digests this food the best of any we have tried. This has taught me how individual cats are. It wouldn't have been my first choice, but now it is the only choice for Buddy. Never has he done so well and that makes us all happy.

Went all the way from a 5 star down to a 4 star down to a 1 star. My cats will not eat this anymore. I've also noticed that Max has started choking and wheezing. I attribute this to the powder. I thought, if I added water, that would, at least, alleviate the problem. But he just plain straight out will not eat this food. Kit won't either. And here I thought I had found the resolution to Max's problems. I have to give credit to the seller, though. They refunded my money. Back to the drawing board, so to speak. I thought of trying the Pea and Duck, but I don't know if I want to try it. Max cannot eat chicken. Any suggestions will be appreciated. UPDATE: Here it is two days later, and I've already seen where my girl is not as enthusiastic about her food. But, I think I might have found out the reason why. There is an awful lot of powder in this food. I have fed cats everything from Meow Mix to the more expensive, on the market. Never once have I seen this much powder at the beginning of food. I would venture to say, it is all the way through the food. On the other hand, I've noticed they are chasing each other. This is new. These two use to, pretty much, ignore each other. Max is itching a lot less. His fur is even healthier looking. Kit has more of a sheen to her coat. Max's bowel movements are more normal. So, in conclusion, I still feel this is a healthy food with many benefits that outweigh the one, obvious, negative with the excess powder. Either way, I've removed one star. I will continue to update into this new food change. Oh. That's one more thing. I switched them totally over to this immediately rather than the usual introduction time of two to three weeks. So far so good. Except for Max upchucking hair balls a couple of times, all is good in that neighborhood as well. It looks like we, finally, have a winner! Both cats loves this food. The minute I put it in their bowls, they acted like they were starving, even though they had been eating their, "Ideal Balance", all throughout the day. They ate just about every bite and was really enjoying themselves. It made my heart feel good watching them enjoy their food, for the first time, in days, and knowing that our cats are now getting a healthy, grain free food that they both like. And, this is the only brand, I could find, within our budget, that has only Turkey in it-no chicken or chicken by products. I think Max may be allergic or sensitive to chicken, which is why he has scratched something fierce. I am also happy that he, seems to be, finally, satisfied and did not vomit right after eating. And something I haven't seen for the last two days, he is resting instead of lying or sitting by his bowl, and Kit crawled up into my chair and is fast asleep. I would say, this is the sign of two contented Pussies. It seemed like he knew this great food was coming. For two days, he kept sitting by his bowl and begging for more food, even though he had been nibbling his kibble all the time. When this bag got here, I told my hubby to sit it on the floor, just to see what both of them would do. Max tried getting into it right away, and when we opened the bag, both of them were begging like I never feed them. I think Ideal Balance was a food stepping stone, so to speak, until I found this gem. But my cats just weren't satisfied with it anymore. Max has other problems that had caused him to vomit quite often. He cannot eat straight from the floor, and he eats too fast. I remedied these problems by putting his bowl on a coffee can rather than buying those expensive dishes. (Actually, I use this method for both cats. I figure, why spend extra money for those expensive dish holders when I can, save money, recycle cans and help our environment in the process. I also put a small ball, in Max's bowl, to keep him from scarfing down his food. These two methods have brought his throwing up down to over 80%. I have, actually, seen a full month go by without having to clean up after him. And I'm talking about projectile vomiting. Instead of running to the vet, when your cats exhibit these kinds of symptoms, try some of my ideas and see if they don't help. You just might save yourself hundreds of dollars on vet bills that really don't need to be, and your fur darling won't have to be subjected to, painful, ongoing, sometimes, unnecessary tests. Finally, hubby came up with an idea since Natural Balance doesn't implement zip bags like we've had with other brands, such as, Ideal Balance. Rather than trying to find some way to close up the bag to keep the food fresh, and to get away from storing this food in plastic containers, he put it in a huge, glass bowl, with a seal off lid. It's tough to get off, but, in the long run, again it will save us money by keeping their food, fresh, for longer. I hope I helped you to make an informed decision to try this food for your pets, and that, by implementing some or all of our ideas, it will make your, pet-owning, life a lot easier. I will see how this helps Max with his skin problem and update as we go along. But, for now, as I said, I believe we, finally, have a winner!
