Questions
Is it OK to feed cats dry food only?

"Dry food is fine as long as it is complete and balanced," says Dr. Kallfelz. Dry food may be less expensive than canned cat food and may stay fresher longer. Cats that eat only dry food need to be provided with lots of fresh water, especially if they are prone to developing urinary tract blockages.

Is it better to feed cats wet or dry food?

Wet food is more expensive and less easy to use but can be beneficial in cats prone to lower urinary tract disease, constipation and that are overweight. Dry food can be a very efficient way to provide calories in thin cats with food volume limitations and allows for the use of food puzzles and food toy dispensers.

Why can't I find Friskies dry cat food?

On Purina's website, a simple notice about the discontinuance of Friskies cat food and treats stated: “That thing you're looking for? It's been discontinued. Don't be sad it's gone, be happy there are so many other things to try!”

Is Friskies dry cat food good for cats?

Overall, yes! Friskies are considered good for your cat. Additionally, cats of all life stages love the flavors that these foods have to offer. This could be because the brand has been in the market for decades.

Why is everyone out of Friskies cat food?

Canned cat food — from well-known brands like Fancy Feast, Friskies and 9 Lives — is the most elusive. Several factors are responsible, including pandemic-related manufacturing delays, bad weather, and an uptick in pet ownership and pampering.

Is Friskies dry cat food made in China?

Purina Friskies cat food is made primarily in the U.S. as well as Thailand. As a global pet care leader, Nestlé Purina PetCare manufactures products throughout the world. Regardless of where our products are produced, you can be assured that they are subjected to our rigorous quality assurance standards.

Why is Friskies dry food out of stock?

We're sorry to share that our 13-ounce Purina Friskies brand cat food cans have been discontinued. This was a difficult decision that was made in an effort to focus on expanding our Friskies varieties in 2020.

Why is Friskies Indoor out of stock?

Unfortunately, we have made the decision to temporarily suspend production of Friskies Indoor Delights. We know it can be frustrating to not find exactly what you are looking for, and we would be happy to help you find a similar flavor or variety that your cat might like.

How much dry Friskies should I feed my cat?

For an adult cat, start with ½ of a 5.5 oz. can (Friskies/9 Lives-size can) twice daily and no additional food.

What should cats eat daily?

Kirkwood Animal Hospital recommends that you feed your cat a 50-50 mixture of dry and canned food. When feeding the adult indoor cat we recommend 1/4 of an eight ounce cup of dry cat food each day fed with 2.5 ounces of canned food (about 1/2 of a normal can of cat food).

Can a cat eat rice?

It may be a staple in many human diets, but can cats eat rice? It's safe for cats to nibble on some cooked rice now and then, and your veterinarian may even recommend it as an aid for digestive issues. You may also see rice in a number of cat foods since it can contribute to a nutritionally balanced cat food.

Why is Friskies canned cat unavailable?

As with other food product shortages, the global supply chain woes are at play in the canned cat food shortage as well. Also, a shortage of packaging materials has made things complicated for canned cat food companies.

My mail cats love their dry Friskies
Customer says:
Good for helping 2 homeless kitties living on their own w/o breaking the bank. I do alternate w/ a bag of more expensive urinary tract health cat food when the bag gets used up so that any crystal formation (esp. in male kitties & homeless cats that get no vet care & would just go off & die a horribly painful death & no one would even know) can be slowed & hopefully dissolved; then when that bag is empty go back to a new bag of Surfin’ & Turfin’ to keep costs down. So it’s a back & forth thing between health & cost. I didn’t used to alternate & a sweet little orange tom did die from stone blockage & I learned a terrible lesson & am at least trying to make sure that never happens again. But I haven’t seen a cat not like the Surf/Turf. They do put weight on w/ it if they tend to have that problem, so not the best choice for cats fighting being overweight (even young cats do have heart attacks & can become diabetic w/ obesity). But for kitties w/o weight issues or crystals, this does well & they like it & so does my budget. I wish I could feed them can food which is always better than dry for cats, but I can neither afford it or leave it out to spoil til they come around in summer or freeze solid before they get it in winter & being useless to them in both seasons. So dry it has to be w/ a bowl of water next to it. Cheap typically means poor quality & not healthy, but this is at least avg quality & definitely not a poor quality choice while still being cheaper than most dry cat foods. Thank goodness!

Liked. To feed my cat
Customer says:
We have used Friskies dry and canned cat food for decades. We've never had a cat that didn't love it. When people ask us if this less expensive dry food is healthy, our reply is that some of our cats lived 21-23 years of age and this variety of Friskies is the only food they ate. With some other brands, our cats threw up almost every time they ate it, but not Friskies. We are in animal rescue with many cats passing through our doors, but those with chronic health issues that no one wants stay with us - and these less than healthy cats do fine on the various types or formulas of Purina foods, including this less expensive Friskies Surfin' & Turfin' flavor. Our cats with serious issues eat Purina's Pro Plan Veterinary Diet Hydrolyzed formula, which is more expensive than other Friskies formulas. We're grateful to Purina for producing safe, healthy, affordable food in so many different flavors and formulas, including this one. Our cats have loved it and it's been healthy for our cats. (We have not received anything for this review - our purpose is to offer a review that might help other cat lovers.)
Customer says:
I don't feed this for their main diet. I do feed the friskies pate for their regular wet food along with grain free dry from the warehouse store, but for treats this is great. Both the dogs and cats love this. It has a greasy flavor coating sprayed onto it the way the cat treats have, but it's both much less expensive than the treats and nutritionally complete. Amazon's prices on most items go up and down, but currently they are selling it for $1.75 less than their huge low-price competitor does in their physical store, and with Amazon it's delivered to my door. I can get 20 oz of cat treats for $5 to $10 in the big value-size containers, and for the high end of that I can get 16 lbs of this, and this smells better. I'm feeding a house full of rescue animals, so this makes great treats.
Customer says:
I bought this because it was a very good price for the quantity. One disclaimer: I don't feed this to my cats, but to my raccoons. I feed two adult raccoons and four babies, and they LOVE dry cat food better than anything I have ever fed them. They always come running when they hear me pour it out for them. And I read that pet food is the most nutritionally sound food to feed wildlife like raccoons and deer. The dog food is too large for the raccoons and they prefer cat food. This may be an inappropriate review of cat food since I feed it to raccoons. If so, I apologize.
