If you notice an odor or if much of the litter is wet or clumped, it's time for a change. Scrub the box every time you change the litter. Use mild dish detergent to clean it, as products with ammonia or citrus oils can turn a cat off, and some cleaning products are toxic to cats.
Clumping Cat Litter Once the litter is clumped together, it can be removed from the litter box—along with any feces in the box—relatively easily. Just scoop out the soiled litter from the box and leave the clean litter in its place.Jul 6, 2012
When it comes to getting rid of old cat litter, it's best to keep it simple: Throw it away. Composting or flushing it can do more harm than good. By scooping it out regularly and disposing of it properly, you can keep your home clean and your kitty happy.Jun 21, 2022
If you have a good quality clumping cat litter, regular peeing will cause it to clump. Spraying won't saturate the litter enough to make a clump. If you have more than one cat, make sure they have their own litter box in their own area. Some cats share litter boxes but often decide that's no longer acceptable.
Dumping cat litter is illegal, bad for the environment, and potentially harmful to wildlife and other people. The only proper methods to dispose of soiled cat litter are to compost, bury, or bag and trash. Any other method, no matter how convenient, should be avoided.Jun 4, 2021

Kittens are curious creatures, tending to investigate things with both their paws and mouths. In the process, they may ingest their own litter. Clumping clay litters can be particularly dangerous to the digestive tract, creating a rock-like obstruction as the litter hardens.Jul 8, 2011
Non-clumping cat litter is good at removing odors associated with cat urine because it has the ability to absorb relatively large volumes of urine.Jul 6, 2012
Although half the weight of regular kitty litter has been removed from lightweight litter, that doesn't mean less absorption power or lower odor control. In fact, some lightweight litters perform even better at quickly absorbing wetness and locking in odor than other, heavier litters.
Is Tidy Cat Litter good for your cat? In a vet's opinion, it is okay but not great. It is very affordable, easy to find, and most cats will use it. However, like any clay litter is does contain dust that can irritate sensitive eye, throat, and nose tissues.Dec 10, 2014
