Transformative Pet Nutrition How did you come up with the idea for this product? After a trip to Europe in 1974, our founder, Sissy Harrington McGill noticed that European dogs were living longer than their American counterparts and believed diet was a large reason. Dogs in Europe were eating primarily meat based diets while American pet foods were largely grain based. Her desire to formulate a more healthful diet for her own Great Danes lead to the start of Solid Gold Pet. Now, more than 40 years later, our holistic approach continues to deliver results you can see and your pet can feel. What makes your product special? As America’s first holistic pet food brand, Solid Gold has led the charge in developing premium pet nutrition for over 40 years. Each of our recipes is specifically formulated to support your cat’s whole-body health: a brilliant coat, sparkling eyes and optimal energy levels. What has been the best part of your startup experience? Our pets give us so much—so we have made it our mission to return the favor. We are a group of pet parents, animal lovers, adventurers and nutritionists who want nothing but the very best for our furry friends. There is nothing better than being able to develop foods, treats and supplements that allow our pets to enjoy life and be the best pet they can possibly be!

Questions
How many pouches of food should a cat have a day?

Experts agree that serving 3-5 pouches of food daily is enough to satisfy your cat and provide her with sufficient nourishment. Of course, each cat is different and the exact number will depend on your cat's age, weight, breed, and their level of activity among other things.May 28, 2020

How many cat food pouches should I feed my cat?

So, how many pouches should your cat eat per day? Experts agree that serving 3-5 pouches of food daily is enough to satisfy your cat and provide her with sufficient nourishment.May 28, 2020

How much wet food should I feed my cat?

Most cats need 4-5 ounces of canned food per day, total. Pate-style varieties tend to be higher in calories per can than the varieties that more resemble people food with chunks and gravies- this can be useful when trying to fine-tune the number of calories per day being consumed.

Is one pouch of cat food enough?

For example, if you have an indoor cat, they might not need as much food as outdoor cats. If you feed your cat wet food, one pouch per mealtime should be enough. If your cat doesn't eat the whole pouch, you could refrigerate it and when your cat is hungry again, gently warm the food back up in the microwave.

Is one can of wet food enough for a cat?

High protein, low carb diets are touted by some to be less likely to cause obesity in cats, but this has been disproven in feeding studies; total calories consumed is most important. Most cats need 4-5 ounces of canned food per day, total.

Reviews From our Customers
Customer says:
I like coconut based wet food. It is healthy and our cat absolutely loves her wet food!
Customer says:
We tried the Tuna and Coconut Milk flavor. All cats are different but wow my cats went crazy for this. In fact I think it would be a shame if I didn't order more for her. Just hearing the flex of the packet sent her into a frenzy running to the kitchen. She begged and sweet talked for this particular food. (She can tell the sound of the packet vs. her other cans) My other cat wasn't as loony for it but she definitely eats it too. No complaints from either cat. I can't speak on all the flavors as I just tried this one and will stick with this one since they loved it so much. The consistency is very wet, since it's a creamy "bisque". This is good because my cats mostly eat dry food and need more moisture content in their diet. When they're getting picky on their wet food I can pour some of this over the dry food and instantly they gobble it up. It hasn't caused any GI upsets but I always transition new foods very slowly. I feel good about where this is sourced and made. Thailand is one of the biggest suppliers of coconut and they are big suppliers of seafood as well. My only complaint is the packets. They are hard to open! You'd think they'd be easy to just rip but the packages are tough and hard to tear. I soon learned that scissors are necessary. Even poking with a knife and tearing wasn't working well. Also I feel like some of the contents gets wasted sticking to the inside of the packet. Of course none of that matters to my cat and she demands more.
Customer says:
I'm always looking for ways to add more moisture to my cats' diet, as one of them is very prone to urinary tract infections. They seem to enjoy the flavor of this bisque, and they lap it right up. I wouldn't describe it as creamy, though. The liquid is much more of a broth than the described "creamy bisque," but the fur babies don't seem to mind that at all. The only complaint I have is that one of the pouches was open and had leaked onto the entire contents of the box. When I retrieved the Amazon box from the porch, it smelled as if it contained a dead animal. I had to empty all 24 pouches into the sink and individually examine and wash them until I found the culprit. It was absolutely disgusting! I feel awful for the Amazon delivery driver who was stuck with that awful-smelling box for who knows how long. I usually by the Hartz Delectables Bisque but wanted to try this grain-free option and larger pouch, but I doubt that I'll purchase this again.
Customer says:
This food is a bit of a soupy mess, but my two cats really seem to like it. They usually like a new food for one or two meals and then turn up their noses, but they have been eating this steadily for almost three weeks. It's definitely not cheap, but the folks at Solid Gold seem to have ANOTHER winning food (my cats can't get enough of the dry food), and I'm happy to get them off the 100% Fancy Feast diet. I can't complain about the look too much (it's like cold chicken soup) because I don't have to eat it, but the packaging is almost impossible to open without squirting a small or large amount onto your hand, the floor, or the table. There's a notch on the top of the bag, but in order to pull it you have to get a good grip, which means squeezing the bag somewhere, which means some food is going to come popping out as soon as it's open unless you time it perfectly. It works with scissors, but it's just not practical to always have those around if you are in a hurry. So - the price and the packaging are not great, but the fact that my cats come running and eat it ALL far outweighs those negatives. Also, I trust the Solid Gold brand, even though looking over the ingredient list is a little like going back to chemistry class. 3% ASH?
Customer says:
Let's face it. It's all about getting our fluffer to eat wet food occasionally. Finding something that they like is an ongoing and current struggle. Well my kitty LOVES it but doesn't want me to know. He turns his nose up EVERY time; however an hour later half of it is gone and by morning, the bowl is clean. So there is that. But the smell....omg.... but I am getting some additional moisture into his diet so, I can deal.
Customer says:
Wasn't sure about coconut milk bisque. But other reviewers said that their cats loved it, so I gave it a try. And the verdict is she loves it! OMG does she ever love it. She's a talker with lots to say and she really gets loud when we're going to the kitchen for a bite of this. The dog wanted to try it. She doesn't really bother the cat when she eats and Misty gets fed on a step ladder. The dog was straining to get her head up there enough to give it a try. But to no avail. This is for the cat and the dog will just have to settle for her dog food. An update. About 10-12 days after I got this she quit eating it. I have other food for her and she's become a finicky eater. I have bought more cat food she won't eat lately... I'm very frustrated by it. I don't know anyone else with a cat I can give the food she won't eat to. I won't buy this one again.
